I grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and attended the University of Wisconsin - Madison. During college summers, I sweated as a AFL-CIO union steelworker making beer cans, a job so rich that it may be the inspiration for my next book. While a Midwest girl at heart, I have at times thrown caution to the wind to pursue various dreams, including creative writing and climbing in Peru.
I've lived in California, Colorado, Connecticut before settling into Vermont almost a decade ago. In my spare time, I enjoy winter mountain sports, upland bird hunting, and hanging outside with friends, family and dogs in north-central Vermont. (Check out my canine website for stories about the latest dog developments.) As president of the Lincoln, Vermont Library Board of Trustees, I make plumbing, driveway pothole and other glamorous repairs and work to fund the library.
Several years ago I veered away from my day job in corporate communications to scratch out the first words of my novel, The Wonderful Topperweins. It's been a scary and exhilarating ride of manic highs and lows--the blank screen, the well-turned sentence, a simple thought you cannot express after ten rewrites, the aha! moment where you understand your lead character's inner turmoil, and that realization you're getting it done followed by a sentence so bad you wonder how you passed seventh grade English. The Wonderful Topperweins is now a completed manuscript looking for an agent and publisher! In the meantime, I've written and published short stories and poems, and a blog about the best dogs in the universe.
